Alan Pownall – ‘Clara’ – Melechtric Re-Mix
We were recently sent through a re-mix of Alan Pownall’s single ‘Clara’, by Melechtric. Alan Pownall is a UK based singer songwriter, he is quite the lyricist and some might say his style was slightly American in it’s delivery.
If you fancy catching Alan live he will be playing at Puregroove records, 6-7 West Smithfield, on the 27th Oct and 10th Nov for their ongoing InStore programe of events. However if you fancy something a little sooner Alan will also be playing The Royal Albert Hall on 22nd Oct, with Jonathan Jeremia and Jose Vanders in conjunction with Music Week. But more on that here.
It’s easy to see why Alan has been labeled a British Jack Johnson, but personally I’d see a greater parallel in Ed Harcourt on some tracks, particularly his album ‘Here Be Monsters’, Alan has a similar sinewy voice and the utilises the same breadth of instruments too.
This is lovely sunshine pop, in keeping with a resurgence of folk tinged releases of late. The re-mix is a very different kettle of fish entirerly. In speeding up the lyric Melechtric has created a track which flits from RJD2 lounge into minimal techno, then back again and to great effect.
