Caitlin Rose is a 22 year old singer/ songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee signed to Names Records here in the UK. With a whole lot of twangy, Southern spirit in her self described ‘cosmic-country’ Caitlin’s music is nothing less than captivating. I must admit to was slapping away at my knee and clucking away as if the devil couldn’t stop me.

She recently performed her cover of the Rolling Stones’ ‘Dead Flowers’ on Mark Riley’s BBC 6 Music show on Tuesday evening, this is the title track of her forthcoming EP towards the end of next month. It has generated some noise over in the states, a recent review of her set at Nashville Cream states;

“1. Rose actually managed to get the crowd to sing along. (This is Nashville! She was the opener!! These people weren’t even drunk yet!!!) A sizable portion of the early-arriving attendees joined the songstress for the chorus of ‘Answer in One of These Bottles’, and they sounded pretty decent doing it.

2. That girl can sing. Like really sing. It was on the slower numbers that her vocal prowess really shone. She has that tone, that dynamism, that certain je ne sais quoi that many of this year’s American Idol contestants would kill for.

3. You can’t teach charisma. This young lady’s humility and quirkiness is undeniably alluring – it was especially cute when she took off her hat for the sad ones.”

‘Rock n Roll’s tambourine toting little sister’ has drawn comparisons to Patsy Cline, whose track ‘Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray’ she also covers on the EP, amongst others. Caitlin is somewhat blessed with a startling, precocious native talent, brash but introspective. There is a whimsical imagination in some of her songs, ‘Gorilla Man’ is a good example.

We have been promised an as yet undisclosed free track from her EP in the coming weeks so stay tuned, however in the mean time you can stream to the new EP in it’s entirety over at her Bandcamp.
