Caitlin Rose // Gorilla Man Video

Caitlin Rose: Gorilla Man from Anika Mottershaw on Vimeo.

Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee is something of a burden, when you’re a country singer. But 22-year-old Caitlin Rose is no ordinary country singer. The lass draws to mind the pure country pop of Jenny Lewis, the early folk experiments of Beck and the sheer cheek of Moldy Peaches, underlying a gigantic vocal talent that is plainly obvious.

As she explains simply; “I wanted to sing my guts out.” With the help of Andy Wilkins on pedal steel guitar, Zach Serchfield on guitar, Bob Grant on mandolin, and Travis Collingsworth on bass, Rose does exactly that. Neatly conveying the passage of love and that niggling frustration we’ve all known when confronted with an ex and their new beau. Possessive little mammals that we are.

Her tambourine-led acapella on the ever-so-sassy ‘Gorilla Man’ comes with a lovely little animation prepared by another talented young lady Anika Mottershaw, I could not help but share with you. This sweet and honest lovelorn lament, is touching in it’s lust, loss and niggling anger.

I can see that frowned, knowing eye of girlfriends past and in all honesty, it just plain terrifies me. On that note, why not let Rock n Roll’s tambourine toting little sister into your heart.
