Chiddy Bang – ‘Stylo’ Remix
Philly’s fine purveyors of rap electronica Chiddy Bang will be releasing their single on Monday 22nd of February, the track ‘Opposite of Adults’ samples MGMT’s ‘Kids’ heavily and by gosh it works. This lot follow in the footsteps of Plastic Little, also native of Philadelphia, though the content of their lyrics is far less debauched and they hold no penchant for re-working eighties classics into hip-hop medleys. Other than those two glaring discrepancies there is a definitely a link.
I’m a big fan of this more abstract hip-hop appearing, a modern shift back to the tru-school is hugely appetizing, the pop/gangsta crap that has mainly populated the genres output, commercially at least, is just wak. Long live the era of a more light hearted approach. Humor is after all a valid addition to most things.
Chiddy Bang will be playing with fellow Yank’s Hockey at London’s KOKO this coming Tueday, unfortunately the show is sold out but I’m pretty confident there will be further opportunities to catch them in the coming months. I for one will be there with bells on. A gift of Gorrilaz’s ‘Stylo’ has been remixed by Chiddy Bang of late and is available to ya’ll in a 32k format which is nice.
