Esben and The Witch – ‘33′ EP
The Brighton 3 piece, made up from Daniel Copeman, Thomas Fisher and Rachel Davies have been making the odd wave or two in recent months with their creative live performances. having recently shared stages with the likes of The XX and Deerhunter. The band live up to their name-sake Esben and The Witches’ approach to set building and producing a show to remember is really quite refreshing.
Dance To The Radio, the small, Leeds based label that brought forth The Pigeon Detectives, have recently released their EP. It’s completely free too, well the cost of an email address. Shameless data collection? Or a late Yuletide, musical hamper for one and all? Either way it’s pretty generous. If you fancy returning the favor, the trio will be playing a few UK dates kicking off in early February.
4 Feb – The Hobby Horse – London
7 Feb – The Prince Albert – Brighton
9 Feb – Brundell Social Club – Leeds
10 Feb – The Harley – Sheffield
11 Feb – The Deaf Institute – Manchester
12 Feb – Library – Lancaster
13 Feb – The Jericho – Oxford
3 Mar – Shepard’s bush Empire
22 Mar – Koko – London
Described by some as ‘nightmare pop’, the band recently featured on Dance To The Radio’s 4 x 12” compilation EP alongside Chickenhawk & Olfar. Rachel’s vocals veered from Eyna through Gwen Stefani to Bjork. Quite special really, full of haunting, slow progessing synths, acoustic and rhythm contrasted against frantic, building riffs their very first EP, 33, is available to download
Enjoy!
