Friday Night Hero – Debut Album

Brighton based Friday Night Hero’s debut album, ‘Tourist In Your Own Town’, is full of dramatic synths and prolonged, poignant guitar riffs and melodies. Though they are quite robust in their synth approach, more than ably provided by Jason Marconi, the band possess all the hallmarks of a progressive, indie-rock band.

The band nods to Franz Ferdinand, Bloc Party and lamentably Hard-Fi in the construction and delivery of their tracks. Fast paced guitar coupled with well timed pauses and brought together with the rough edged, off tone vocals we have come to expect in this genre.

Oddly enough, in consideration of the UK’s current obsession with boys and guitars the band has a huge following in Germany. I for one see little comparison with the Hof’s famed ‘Shit on the Shoes’ release. A cover opportunity perhaps?

The album is well balanced, my personal favourite is ‘Faster’, 7 plays this morning and counting, notably upbeat and filled with lust I can but help hopping about making ‘shapes’ in the kitchen. It’s what Saturday mornings are there for after all.

The album is full of introspective topics, the aforementioned desire, relationship breakdown, one night stands, hope, aspiration, disappointment and the associated melodrama that comes with rock’s conveyance of these themes.

‘Tourist In Your Own Town’ is out now on Capitol East Road and Radar Music.
