Get Well Guru!

It has been reported that Gang Starr and Jazzmatazz luminary Guru is in a coma following a heart attack over the pond. The seminal rapper and producer responsible for much of what is good and true in the world of hip-hop recently hinted at the prospect of new material with long-term partner in crime DJ Premier.

They partnered up in 1985 in Boston and their output is arguably one of the most prolific in the genres history, belting out nine albums and twenty-one singles until their last album in 2006.

Guru, born Keith Alam, rose to prominence as an MC in the 80s. Known for his distinctive voice and intelligent rhymes, he released a string of hits with Gang Starr, including Words I Manifest, Just to Get Rep and Full Clip

The duo were reportedly on indefinite hiatus after 2003 album The Ownerz, with Guru and DJ Premier giving conflicting messages about their future, particularly given the twitter hints of new work. It would be a true loss if he were to go.

For a twenty five year old white boy, inducted into the ways of hi-hop as a teenage youth it would almost be like loosing a treasured teddy bear.

Figuratively speaking, no cuddly references or allusions intended.
