Lail Arad // ‘Someone New’ EP
The lovely Lail Arad will be releasing her debut EP, ‘Someone Else’ sometime in the coming, and much anticipated Spring, and is set to be released by the slightly ironically named Notify Records.
Her music is hugely reflective, filled with personal confusion, questioning and commentary on the world around her, conveyed a deliciously smokey voice she reminds me of both Macy Grey and Lily Allen, though as one bi-partisan pop wonder. If that makes sense?
Domestic and worldly inspirations can only take a young artist so far. Thankfully Lail has the voice to deliver. Sometimes powerful, sometimes gentle, always unaffected, she sings her tales of everyday life full of mischief and intrigue.
The EP, is littered with a wide variety of instruments, picalo and horns, acoustic guitar, gentle, lullaby like piano are all scribed by Lail herself, tailored if you will to her voice and lyrics. A tasty little package it is.
“Culturally I’ve always had a slightly outsiders perspective, but you can never really feel like an outsider in the mash-up that is London. Making the album was like throwing lots of musicians, ex-boyfriends, delicious food and secret diaries into a big washing machine and spinning it at boiling point until one colourful dress came out which I love wearing!”
