Young Laura Marling has announced the title and the track listing to her eagerly anticipated second album, out on 1 March 2010. ’I Speak Because I Can’ contains ten tracks, and follows her debut Mercury Music Prize nominated album ‘Alas I Cannot Swim.’ Two simple and honest titles, fully reflective of the raw, exposed nature of Laura’s music.

She will be touring extensively in the wake of the launch, supported by Alessi’s Ark through most of April, dates are detailed on that blog just below. All things considered, it is set to be a busy kick off for 2010 as she is set to tour the states in first weeks of February too. All sounds a bit grueling to me, but that’s showbiz I suppose.

With her own blend of folk-rock, Laura’s songs tell stories. Opportunities missed, personal debates, reflections of friends or lovers form her commentary. Whipped along with soft, hanging notes these reflections are nicely personified through Laura’s meandering voice, conveying her inner thoughts and experiences.

There is an awful lot of this music making appearances at the minute, Noah and the Whale obviously created quite an appetite for new-folk musings. The popularity of Mumford and Sons is testament to that. What with Cosmo Jarvis, Alan Pownall and Yeasayer all set for releases it should be a bountiful year.

Whoop, whoop!
