M.I.A. comes out of retirement.

Even retirement isn’t permanent anymore; just look at Jay-Z and Eminem. The game is like a drug, and they can’t kick it.
The latest artist to come back from the other side is M.I.A. After performing her “last show” at Bonnaroo 2008, she settled into married life, retiring at the age of 30 with a newborn child. It was a sad day for music; the news came only a year after she stepped up a level, releasing second album Kala, underground hit “Paper Planes” and delivering an excellent performance of “Swagga Like Us” at the Grammys, complete with maternity wear.
Fortunately, Diplo has confirmed that a new release is on its way:
“Been in the studio with M.I.A. working on her new record. It’s like Gucci Mane meets Animal Collective. I think there are a couple of people [producing] but we’re going to finish it off, me and Switch. We’ve done like four tracks already.”
The album is obviously going to be an entirely new undertaking, for both M.I.A. and her fans. “I’d love to write songs like The Last Shadow Puppets or something, or like old Blur songs”. How this fits into Maya’s day-glo world remains to be seen, but the girl has creative genius. Can’t knock that.
