Marina and the Diamonds
Marina is a young singer, songwriter on the cusp of a lot of lips right now. I see a People’s Choice ’10 nomination in the offing methinks. I first came across her at a packed Puregroove live show and have been pleased at seeing her progressive / rocky horror show pop steadily rack up the mentions over the past few months. She is very likable too, in her own words, ‘I’m Marina, and you are the diamonds’. Bless.
Though saying that, when I saw her live I did get an overall impression of mischief from Marina, fun certainly, but definitely mischief too.
Her new single ‘Mowgli’s Road’ will be in the shops on the 16th of November, a follow up to her EP ‘The Crown Jewels’ which I would seriously suggest laying your mits on. By no means a pop princess, Marina is somewhat fixated on the boundaries between fame for talent and product Vs. fame for famesake.
Marina will be appearing at the overtly fashionable Les Inrocks in Paris on the 8th November and again ten days later, back in her newly native London @ the Levi’s ‘Ones to Watch’ show. Sickeningly cool isn’t it.
