Out in February 2010 is the much anticipated release of Massive Attack’s fifth studio album. ‘Heligoland’ will be released via Virgin Records on 8 February 2010 in the UK and on 9 February in the US. After a break of nearly four years from releasing any records the band have been gigging regularly. Let’s hope all that time away has inspired some fresh material.

The boys have been rumored to have been bouncing about ideas on this for over three years, featuring an all star cast of guests it must be worth waiting for. Contributions include vocals from Damon Albarn, Hope Sandoval, Martina Topley-Bird, Guy Garvey and Tunde Adebimpe.

In between making monkey operas and brit-pop reformations Mr. Albarn has also found time to play bass on ”Flat Of The Blade’ and keyboards on ‘Splitting The Atom’. Busy boy.

In fact a whole slew of artists appear on the album with Portishead’s Adrian Utley plays guitar on ‘Saturday Come Slow’ and a collaboration with DFA’s Tim Goldsworthy on selected tracks. With all these contributors and throwing their weight behind the album and judging on the merit of their previous efforts, Blue Lines was a huge part of my teenage years, this latest album should be something to write home about.
