The Joy Formidable//Popinjay

The Joy Formidable will be dropping their new single ‘Popinjay’. Taken from the scintillating debut album by the Formidable, the single is out now as a digital download, a limited run of 500 7″ vinyls will be available from April 5th.

Having spent 2009 touring with the likes of Passion Pit, Temper Trap and Editors, alongside extensive headline show throughout the UK and Europe, the band ended the year in the studio recording their forthcoming debut album. Currently being mastered ahead of a mid-summer release, ‘Popinjay’ is the first track to be heard from it.

I’m very excited about the prospect of this, it’s been a little while since their debut EP ‘A Balloon Called Moaning’ and am looking forward to it immensely. By their own admission their subject matters can be a tad gloomy, though don’t let this put you off, their blend of new-wave punk rock of truly gripping.

Melding Ritzy Bryan’s vocals to their typical gargantuan guitar hook and a wall of noise like melody that is rapidly becoming the band’s signature sound, ‘Popinjay’ comes backed by a nice bit of animated video. Do enjoy.

In support of the release the band will be heading out on a full UK tour, with support coming from their good friends Baddies. Full dates below, I will surely be at the London date, with bells on.
